As more public sector agencies seek systemic solutions to address racial and social disparities, administrators are looking for responsive, agile solutions from their peers. Public Consulting Group (PCG) is here to spotlight real clients, real solutions, and real tools developed for actionable change as part of the PCG Public Health Connect series.

On Tuesday, October 1 at 2PM ET (11AM PT), join PCG and the Marin County Health and Human Services (HHS) Equity Team live event to learn how the department is choosing to address the racial disparities in their community through their racial equity strategy.

Marin County was ranked healthiest county in California for 13 years in a row but remained first or second ranked most racially disparate county for many of these same years. In 2018, Marin County HHS launched a strategic plan to address health equity, publicly committing to acknowledging the severity of the problem and taking action to address it. However, the pandemic exacerbated these racially disparate outcomes. Marin County introduced CRTs, or Community Response Teams, who identified regions of the county most in need, and receive funding from the HHS department to make an impact. These teams were recruited from trusted community members with connections to the area, to foster a true partnership with the community by listening to what the community needs and allowing them to be stewards of the funds.

Join us Tuesday, October 1 to explore how to address racial equity on a division and staff level, in combination with work happening on the community side. We'll discuss how to align staff's understanding of equity and racial equity, as well as the importance of racial equity work as a foundation, not an addition, to the work of Marin County HHS. Beyond contextualizing the importance of racial equity in Marin County, we’ll cover barriers to this process, importance of a shared language, how to identify gaps and goals that need to be addressed to implement equity work, and more.
