Boston, MA. September 20, 2019 – Public Consulting Group, Inc. (PCG), a leading provider of solutions implementation and operations improvement services to the public sector, today announced that Rick Purcell, associate manager in PCG’s Education practice, has been appointed to the North Carolina Education and Workforce Innovation Commission, for a three-year term beginning September 1, 2019.

Established in 2013, the Commission is comprised of 14 members and charged with developing and administering two grant programs:

• The Education and Workforce Innovation Program, a $2 million annual fund to support schools, districts, and regions undertaking innovative projects that would lead to more students graduating career and college ready. Goals of the Program are to align public schools with business and industry and colleges/universities; provide greater choice for parents/guardians among high-quality public education options; enhance teacher and principal effectiveness; ensure all students possess job-ready skills; and leverage technology to accelerate student and teacher learning.
  
  
• The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Grade Expansion Program, a fund established to expand CTE programs for students in sixth and seventh grade through grant awards provided to selected local school administrative units for up to seven years. Funds appropriated for the Program shall be allocated to selected local school administrative units as competitive grants of (i) up to $700,000 for the 2017-2018 fiscal year and (ii) to the extent funds are available, up to $1 million for the 2018-2019 fiscal year and subsequent fiscal years.

 
Purcell is one of three new members with experience in businesses operating in North Carolina who were appointed to the Commission upon a recommendation from the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Purcell joined PCG after the firm’s acquisition of eWorker Technologies in November 2001. In his three decades of experience in the information technology industry, he has developed cost-saving technologies and innovative services for schools, districts, educational cooperatives, and state departments of education. He is currently engaged in marketing, product development, implementation, and customer satisfaction efforts.
