Last week, PCG employees received some welcome news from the firm’s Human Capital Management (HCM) team: PCG is bringing back its summer hours schedule (also known as “Family & Friends Fridays”) for summer 2022! Family & Friends Fridays spans 10-weeks of summer – from Fourth of July weekend through Labor Day weekend – during which, the firm will close at 1:00 PM (in each work location’s respective time zone) every Friday to give employees extra time off to relax away from work. New this year, PCG will close for the entire day on the Fridays before Independence Day and Labor Day, so employees will get to enjoy full days off on Friday, July 1st, and Friday, September 2nd!

Commenting on the firm’s summer hours schedule, Chief People Officer Tobi Russell said, “People are at the center of every organizational decision we make at PCG: first and foremost, our nearly 3,000 employees and their families, but also our clients across the public sector and those they serve. When we launched this program in 2021, we did so in large part in response to employee feedback captured through continuous feedback loops like short bi-weekly pulse surveys, annual engagement surveys, and other feedback mechanisms. Our people were telling us that PCG needed to do more to support their well-being and work/life balance. So, we listened. And we learned quite a bit by the end of our first summer hours season.”

Russell stressed that managers and supervisory staff with direct reports are critical to the success of programs like Family & Friends Fridays. “It’s not enough to just close early each week – especially with so many folks still primarily working from home where we know the lines between work and life are more prone to blur,” said Russell. “Employees need to be empowered to take the extra time to recharge their batteries and that encouragement should come directly from their managers and supervisors. We provide our people managers with tools to help them lead by example with resources like out of office messages, weekly countdown reminders, and FAQs, to name a few.”

In addition to being feedback-driven, Family & Friends Fridays is also an employee appreciation initiative to thank the firm’s nearly 3,000 employees for their hard work and unwavering commitment to client service. “Our people are our most valuable asset.” said Russell. “We want our employees to know we recognize and appreciate their contributions to the firm; at the same time, we’re taking steps to prevent burnout. Reinstating a summer hours schedule serves both purposes so we’re excited to bring it back.”

Family & Friends Fridays will kick-off its 10-week run on Friday, July 1, 2022 with the firm closing for the entire day so employees can enjoy an extra long holiday weekend. Every Friday thereafter, through the end of August, the firm will close at 1:00 PM (in each work location’s respective time zone). The summer hours schedule will wrap up on Friday, September 2, 2022 when the firm once again will close for the entire day so employees can get a jump start on the long Labor Day weekend.
